The World's a Stage.

So in the span of the past few days I've managed to fall out and in of love.

...With the theatre. Now, no jumping to conclusions, please. :D

In the past week I've attended two plays: A Labour of Love and Culminatio. Two; quite a feat, really, since I don't often drag myself out of the house. But I digress.

The first I watched: A Labour of Love, was directed by none other than our dearest drama instructor, Mr Jeremiah Choy! Applause, please. I suppose it was because of the glaring phrase ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR JEREMIAH CHOY that I jacked up my standards tenfold and had them somewhat dissatisfied.

In a way, the musical was nicely choreographed and directed, along with tiny details (ever Mr Choy's specialty) that set it out beautifully. However, I was somewhat disappointed in the acting and storyline. I guess it was my fault that I had too high expectations, but all in all, it had a good structure, fantastic props and a nice soundtrack. Mmhmm.

I sort of lost my faith for awhile, and this was intensified by a lousy drama session the next day. I do not mean to slam our drama troupe; not at all. I still think we deserved the Gold with Honours; every single bit. :D But I was disappointed with the way we handled our characters again. The magic we had carefully built up over the past months had broken down to leave a half-forgotten autopilot with lost lines. Something I was terrified would happen; and in the end it did. Ah well.

I'm looking forward to actual rehearsals with Mr Choy, because I think that is when we will make magic with our props once again. We found the Simorgh; we can do it, no doubt!

Digressing, again.

But on Saturday, with Laura Faulkner & Angela, I gladly fell head over heels for Drama once again. ACJC & Culminatio restored my faith and love for the stage all, over, again.

It's such a nice tingly feeling, that moment when you're so drawn in and everything is just love and hate and words and movement and emotion and feeling, and you can't help but just love, love, love. It's a fantastic, splendifluous feeling, because you can't pull away and you're just breathless, watching, unmoving. Can't pull out and can't look away right to the end, when the lights flick off and you're left in the darkness with the sound of your beating heart and the thunderous applause.

The script, the lines, the emotions, the accents, the voices, the lighting, the costumes, the choreography; it was beautiful. The way the actors and actresses spoke, full of feeling; the way they could switch, accent to accent, character to character, without a single hitch, was truly amazing. The choreography, the sincerity in their movements and the conviction with which they moved really took my breath away. All in all, it was a ten bucks very, very, very well spent.

Plus, the company was a nice touch. (:

*Sidenote: It was slightly amusing, after nearly eight years worth of seeing girls take on the roles of men in plays, to finally see men actually playing, well, men.

Dear ACJC Drama Seniors,
One day, I hope to create the magic you created for me in that little theatre, and leave nice tingly feelings in the audience as the curtain closes.

Drama, Drama, I love you!
